Envirothon is an annual, middle and high school, year long environmental educational program co-sponsored by the division and the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Studying subjects like soil and land use, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and environmental issues, team efforts culminate in local, area, state and North American competitions. In 2008, over 5,000 people participated in the N.C. Envirothon including students and their families, teachers, state agencies, resource professionals and division staff. North Carolina’s winning high school team went on to compete in the North American Envirothon competition in Flasgtaff, AZ, placing 8th overall against American and Canadian teams.
