- Wear personal protective equipment consistent with
the
hazard and
as directed by your supervisor.
- Be aware of the wide variety of chemicals, cleaning agents,
degreasers,
paint thinners and other combustible materials used in the shops. Read
and follow warning labels on containers and on MSDSs, to ensure
materials
are handled and stored properly.
- Be familiar with the Facility's Evacuation Plan. Notify the
supervisor
if a hazardous substance is spilled. Follow proper procedure for clean
up.
- Be aware of the location of first aid kit, fire
extinguishers, fire
alarm and hoses. Check routinely to make sure they are working
properly.
Follow good housekeeping practices to reduce the risk of fire.
- Material handling equipment (forklifts, hoists, etc.) shall
be
operated
in a safe manner, as established in applicable training programs and
manufacturer's
guideline. Pedestrians should be alert for moving equipment within and
adjacent to shops.
- Proper lifting techniques shall be used. Get help or use
lifting
equipment if necessary.
- Be aware of loose or slippery materials, spilled fluids and
liquids, tripping hazards and other
obstructions. Take appropriate measures to eliminate these
conditions. Use proper housekeeping and spill avoidance/cleanup
techniques to minimize these hazards.
- Determine routing for electrical cords and equipment lines
to avoid
tripping hazards.
- Ensure that proper and adequate ventilation is available
and used
for those processes that require it. requiring and recheck exhaust.

- Utilize portable, non-sparking lights when working on
vehicle
engines and areas where hydrocarbon vapors may be present.
- Ensure ready access to and operating conditions of eye
washes and
emergency showers in case of exposure to skin and eye irritants.
