Hurricane Floyd Daily Response & Recovery Update

Current Situation:

CSC: For the period September 30, 1999 through October 21, 1999, the CSC had a peak of 40 calls on October 6, 1999. Since that time, the CSC has averaged about 15 hurricane-related calls each day. In addition, the CSC has received about 5-8 regular CSC calls.
DAQ: No report received.
DCM: DCM situation is unchanged from the previous situation report.
DEH: Volunteers to assist with data entry at the Public Health Laboratory have been identified.
DFR: Pumping operations reported on October 20, 1999 are continuing in Bertie County (Windsor), Greene County (near Snow Hill), Craven County (near Bridgeton) and Lenoir County. DFR expects increased request for assistance since rivers are forecasted to crest this coming weekend.
DLR: No changes to report.
DMF: DMF does not anticipate any additional shellfish closures today. DMF is still awaiting tissue sample results for fish, shrimp, and crabs that were taken to Raleigh last week. Marine Patrol continues to stand by for request from Emergency Management to support flood relief efforts.
DPPEA: DPPEA is compiling information for the development of a mailer that will be distributed tomorrow on the safe transportation, demolition, disposal, and recycling of mobile homes. Target audiences include insurance companies, mobile home set-up contractors, dealers and haulers.
DPR: As of late afternoon on 10/20/99, DPR reported that several state parks in the eastern part of the state were closed over the weekend in preparation for Hurricane Irene, however, all have reopened. At present we are unaware of additional damage caused by Hurricane Irene.
DSW: No report received.
DWM: Mobile Homes: Mobile home processing contract is expected to be posted for bid today or tomorrow. It will be posted on the Internet and FEMA anticipates signing a contract within 10 days. The work is expected to take place on-site rather than transferring damaged mobile homes to a centralized location due to safety concerns raised by DMV. Work is expected to continue through at least March 2000. Animal Carcass Incineration: The Solid Waste Section is modifying the permit for Glaxo Wellcome's Durham incinerator to allow them to incinerate animal carcasses delivered from storm affected areas. This will be a temporary modification.
DWQ: No additional information to add to yesterday's situation report.
