Hurricane Floyd Daily Response and Recovery Update

Current Situation:
DEH: Princeville Public Water System has been cleared.
DMF: Effective Wednesday, October 27, 1999, all waters in Dare, Hyde, Beaufort, Pamlico, Carteret, Onslow, Pender, and New Hanover Counties return to pre-hurricane status. These waters were temporarily closed as a result of Hurricanes Dennis, Floyd and Irene. Exceptions to this status notice are those waters from Snows Cut to the South Carolina state line, which remain closed. Effective Thursday, October 28, 1999, Lockwoods Folly River reopened to shellfishing in the same status prior to temporary closures associated with Hurricanes Dennis, Floyd, and Irene.
DWM: Nash County Landfill capacity is causing concern.
DWQ: Twenty-three of 24 municipal wastewater treatment plants that were flooded or severly damaged by Hurricane Floyd are now listed as OK. The one not listed as OK is the Town of Wallace WWTP.

Operational Status:
DFR: Pumping operations occuring in Lenoir, Brunswick, and Pender (pumping water away from residence yards and threatened structures. Pumps sent to Wayne County on Friday and DFR personnel successfully saved a dam at risk for failure in the community of Walnut Creek. Nash and Wayne County personnel are involved in hurricane cleanup. Three truckloads of hay are being ransported by DFR from Moore and Scotland Counties to Pitt County. Claridge Nursery under repair. Forestland damage assessment ongoing.
DSW: Survey of three flood control structures in Wayne County complete. Survey of a fourth flood control structure begins this week. Working with DFR to assess damages/implement repairs to their forest nursery at Goldsboro - initial survey complete.
DWM: Monitoring the capacity of the Nash County Landfill. Will begin closing/deactivating temporary debris staging sites used for vegetative materials.
