Friends of South Ellerbe Creek Designated as Official Stream Watch Organization
DURHAM, N.C. –- Friends of South Ellerbe Creek Stream Watch group in the Upper Neuse River Basin has been designated an official Stream Watch organization by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The Friends of South Ellerbe Creek Stream Watch group will be conducting water quality tests, organizing litter pickup efforts along the Creek and surrounding areas, and advocating the creation of an urban green space (near Ninth Street/Green Street).
Stream Watch groups care for streams and waterways in their community through cleanups, nature trail construction, education projects, water quality monitoring, recreational outings, and recording of natural and historic features.
Under the Stream Watch program, DENR furnishes the groups with materials and technical information on water quality, stream flow, fisheries, and water trails. There are contact people in each of the seven DENR regional offices who coordinate information and respond to specific stream problems.

Explorer's 4-H Club Designated as Official Stream Watch Organization
CONCORD, N.C. – Friends of Explorer's 4-H Club Stream Watch group in the Yadkin-PeeDee River Basin has been designated an official Stream Watch organization by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The Explorer's 4-H Club Stream Watch group's planned activities will include litter cleanups (Big Sweep, etc.), and restoration on a tributary of Irish Buffalo Creek which flows through a Park in Concord, NC.
Stream Watch groups care for streams and waterways in their community through cleanups, nature trail construction, education projects, water quality monitoring, recreational outings, and recording of natural and historic features.

Greenbrier Gambusias Designated as Official Stream Watch Organization
RALEIGH, N.C. – Greenbrier Gambusias Stream Watch group in the Neuse River Basin has been designated an official Stream Watch organization by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The Greenbrier Gambusias Stream Watch group activities will include yearly cleanups of Echo Branch, which flows into Lake Benson, and seasonal water quality tests.

Leesville Environmental Club Designated as Official Stream Watch Organization
RALEIGH, N.C. – Leesville Environmental Club Stream Watch group in the Neuse River Basin, has been designated an official Stream Watch organization by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The Leesville Environmental Club Stream Watch group activities will include bimonthly water quality testing of Lake Lynn, and a tributary of Crabtree Creek which flows through the school grounds. They would like to share the information with surrounding schools and include the data collected in the GLOBE Program.

Raleigh, N.C. – Crabtree Valley Youth Leadership Program Stream Watch group in the Neuse River Basin has been designated an official Stream Watch organization by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The Crabtree Valley Youth Leadership Program Stream Watch group will organize river cleanup days, and monitor the water quality of their adopted stretch of Crabtree Creek. Increased awareness and appreciation of the environment, through an active stewardship role, is this groups main objective.

North Carolina State University Marine, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Graduate Student Association Designated as Official Stream Watch Organization
RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina State University (NCSU), Marine, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS), Graduate Student Association Stream Watch group in the Neuse River Basin has been designated an official Stream Watch organization by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The NCSU MEAS Graduate Student Association Stream Watch group have been involved in a stream walk and trash cleanup on Walnut Creek from the Lake Jordan Dam to the former Lake Raleigh in the spring of 1999 and participated in Big Sweep this fall. The NCSU MEAS Graduate Student Organization Stream Watch group will be monitoring water quality and examining the hydraulics of the stream. They are also planning an outdoor class on water quality monitoring which will be conducted by the Stream Watch Program Coordinator.
