Need Maps, Minerals or Gems? New Online Store for Geologic Publications Up and Running
RALEIGH - Access to North Carolina topographic and geological maps, geologic guides to state parks, and information on fossils, gems and minerals in the state will be easier with the launch of the North Carolina Geological Survey's (NCGS) online Geological Survey Shop.
The shop provides on-line sales of many of the NCGS's most popular products, including publications on gold, fossils, and minerals, as well as geologic guides to North Carolina State Parks and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The NCGS plans to expand the store in the future to include more of its 2000 publications and maps covering the state.
"We are very excited about our increased ability to serve researchers, students, tourists, outdoorsmen, artisans, engineers, surveyors and the many others who use our publications," said Charles Gardner, State Geologist and Director of the Division of Land Resources. "In today's technological world, we can't rely solely on traditional means to reach our customers."
The Geological Survey Shop represents a significant advancement in the availability of North Carolina geologic materials in today's world of e-commerce. Before the online store opening, some phone customers had a difficult time placing orders without a visual representation of the products. With the Geological Survey Shop, customers can now read a thorough description and see an image of each product.
Customers can access the Geological Survey Shop at www.store.yahoo.net/nc-maps. Hosted by Yahoo! Store and NC@Your Service and maintained by the NCGS, the Web site provides a new option to the public and offers rapid processing of orders. Customers will benefit from the accuracy, reliability, flexibility, and performance of proven e-commerce technologies, and from the security of buying from a trusted, knowledgeable vendor.
