ASHEBORO -- The North Carolina Zoological Park will celebrate "Earth Day" on Sunday, April 19, with a series of special programs and events in the zoo's Hardee's Touch and Learn Center.
In an effort to inspire visitors to become more aware of environmental issues, a number of area environmental groups will have displays at the zoo. Among the groups represented will be Save Our Rivers, The Piedmont Land Conservancy and the N.C. Solar Center. A recycled art display by artist Jeff Menzer, a demonstration by a local astronomy club and natural products made by Third Day Natural Goods also will be featured.
In addition, a "Human Exhibit" staffed by zoo employees will be set up in the Touch & Learn Center to explain the impact that modern humans have on the environment. All events will be held during regular zoo hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The zoo is located on Zoo Parkway (N.C. 159) six miles southeast of Asheboro off U.S. 64 and U.S. 220. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children 2-12 and senior citizens.
The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
